Battle Masters

So with this lock down giving us plenty of spare time we took a break from Airfix Battles to immerse ourselves in some good old fashioned Fantasy wargaming.

Years ago I bought a mint copy of Battle Masters for not very much and gave it to my eldest in the hope that it would get him interested in wargaming. It succeeded.

We decided to continue the campaign we started earlier this year and so played the second scenario from the book where the Empire have to prevent chaos from getting across the river.

Initial setup. The Empire's setup is dictated by the scenario but Chaos get to choose their setup

Set up from different direction. Chaos concentrated greenskins on their left flank, humans on the right and Beastmen and Ogre in the centre.

The first few cards saw the Empire reinforcement cavalry advancing swiftly up the road whilst the wolf riders attacked the Halbediers on the Ford taking missile fire from the supporting archers.

The Knights arrive at the Ford in time to smash into the advancing Orcs who had crushed the Halbediers and advanced across the river. On the Empire's left flank the Champions of Chaos smashed the Innesdorf Halbediers and advanced across the river. In the Centre the Ogre had slammed into the Altdorf guard and then fluffed his attacks!

The Lord Commanders of the Empire supported by archers and the flower of Imperial chivalry crush both regiments of Orcs and a regiment of wolf riders before starting on the gobbos! In the centre the Altdorf guard heroically stand against the ogre and start wearing him down with lots of wounds.

The second regiment of Wolf riders in a rare display of courage charge the Lord Commanders of the Empire and manage to topple one of the aloof nobles! The Altdorf guard finally despatch the Ogre but at a cost. No sooner has the Ogres body floated down stream than the howling Beastmen rushed the Ford and thumped into the stoic Altdorf guard.

The 'epic' struggle between the wolfriders and the Lord Commanders. In the end it was the archers that finished off the wolf riders. Meanwhile on the Empire's other flank the champions of chaos had advanced toward the Empire's centre wiping out a unit of crossbowmen before being felled by the Archers supporting the Altdorf guard.

The two regiments of Chaos warriors crossed the river and advanced toward the centre. The chaos thug archers turned their attention to the Altdorf guard and started peppering them with arrows with little effect.

The Empire Canon which had failed to hit anything all battle finally blew itself up.

Having crushed the left flank of the chaos army the victorious knights swept along the Chaos lines whilst the Beastmen and chaos warriors finally brought down the Altdorf guard and their supporting archers and set about the Knights if the white wolf.

The knights panther easily despatched the chaos thugs and charged across the Ford smashing into the beastmen

Unfortunately I forgot to take a photo of the last few phases. Chaos managed to take out the knights panther and the Lord Commanders of the Empire but fell to the Empire archers and Reiksguard.

It was a great way to spend a dull morning with the boys. As per usual I lost which is becoming alarmingly Common!
